Elemental Analysis of Copper-Based Metals With the SPECTROPORT LIBS

Copper-based metals cover a broad range of materials, from copper scrap and brass grades to high-performance alloys used in electrical, industrial, and engineering applications. Reliable elemental analysis helps identify and verify these materials at the point of measurement. Correct alloy identification matters because misclassification can lead to reduced product performance, rework, scrap, or commercial disputes.

Mobile metal analysis brings material identification directly to the sample. The application report examines typical copper-based materials, including CuZnPb, CuZnPbSn, CuZnNi, CuNi, CuSnPbZn, CuPbSn, CuAlNiFe, and CuBe alloys. Measurements demonstrate the analysis of multiple alloying and trace elements across these copper alloy groups.

The application report provides practical insight into:
- On-site copper alloy identification and verification for a broad selection of copper-based materials.
- Fast metal analysis, with reported measurements performed in 6 seconds using six automatically acquired sub-measurements.
- Dedicated calibrations for low-alloy copper and various copper alloy groups.

The SPECTROPORT LIBS mobile metal analyzer uses Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for rapid metal analysis in the field. Its portability supports applications where small parts must be analyzed or analysis speed is critical, while dedicated copper calibrations address a wide range of copper alloy groups.
