This paper covers the use of an advanced energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF) instrument to analyze trace elements in samples of geological materials with focus on the analysis of sediment, prepared as pressed powder pellets. Using polarization, band-pass filter, and direct excitation technologies, it proved a powerful analytical tool to satisfy the needs of high precision and low detection limits.
